Do you make your own homemade spice blends?
Over the years I’ve become comfortable with all 80+ jars of spices that are currently overflowing my spice drawer. So much in fact that I started building my own homemade spice blend collection consisting of both sweet and savory spice and herb blends. It started with taco seasoning, moved on to fajita and now I’d like to think I’ve got quite the collection. I’ve linked my homemade spice blends with their corresponding post, any non-linked spice and seasoning recipes can be found in my cookbook.
These are all spices that you can easily make at home. Saving you money and also using those not-so-frequently used spices. Typically spice blends last 6 months in an airtight container. I like to use glass jars with screw on lids. In the last year or so, I’ve been saving empty spice jars, removing labels (nail polish remover is great for any left on adhesive) and thoroughly washing and drying them. I store my homemade spice blends in these reused jars and label them with a permanent sharpie marker.
These recipes are scattered throughout the blog and can be found under the Homemade Ingredients & Condiments tab and then under the spice blend sub header. But I thought that I would make it easier on all of us and put them in one designated place so that they are easier to find. As I continue to grow my collection, I will be adding the recipe link to this page so be sure to keep checking back!
OH and if you have any seasoning blends that I must try, email me at simplyscratchrecipes [at] yahoo [dot] com! I would love to try your spice blends and add them to my collection of homemade spices!

THANK YOU in advance for your support!
Amazing collection!! I love making homemade spice blends myself, however my knowledge and collection of spice blends are still very limited.
That’s great! What spice blends have you made?
How long do all the homemade spice blends usually last? And what container is the best (tin, glass, plastic)?
Hi Cara! Spice blends typically last 6 months and I store most of my spice blends in glass jars with screw on lids, but I do have a few tins that I use too. Great questions!
Do you have a fried rice seasoning mix recipe that I could add to my recipe box?
Hi Michelle! Sorry to say, I do not. But I honestly haven’t heard of it until now
You mentioned a southwest chicken salad when you offered your southwest seasoning recipe. What does it entail?
