Easy Homemade Drop Biscuits

I’m not a newbie to making biscuits.

However I don’t always have the time nor the energy to make them. Enter these SUPER easy homemade drop biscuits! Calling for only 6 ingredient and from start to finish, they take about 35 minutes. Literally foolproof and once baked,  you have buttery, flakey and tender biscuits… every single time.

To Make These Easy Homemade Drop Biscuits You Will Need:

  • unbleached all-purpose flourGives structure to the biscuits.
  • baking powderWill create lightness in the dough, which makes the biscuits rise and gives them a fluffy crumb. Read labels and avoid baking powder with aluminum.
  • granulated sugar (white) – Added for flavor and a subtle touch of sweetness.
  • kosher saltEnhances the flavor of the biscuits.
  • cold unsalted butter – Cut butter into cubes and chill or freeze. Using cold butter makes for lighter biscuits.
  • whole milkLends moisture and flavor.

measure and add dry ingredients

Line a rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper and preheat your oven to 400°.

In a large mixing bowl, measure and add 2 cups unbleached all-purpose flour, 1 tablespoon baking powder, 1 teaspoon kosher salt, 1 teaspoon sugar.

Whisk and set aside.

Next, drop in 10 tablespoons of cold unsalted butter. Before I start making the drop biscuits, I will cut the butter into pieces, put them into a bowl and pop them into the freezer for a few minutes.

Using a pastry blender, cut the butter into the dry ingredients until it resembles coarse meal with pea-size pieces.

Pour in the milk and using a fork, stir it into the flour mixture until evenly wet.

Divide the dough into 8 portions. Scoop each individual portion and place on the prepared pan an inch or so apart.

Easy Homemade Drop Biscuits

Bake the drop biscuits on the middle rack of your preheated oven for 20 minutes or until golden brown and a toothpick comes out with moist crumbs attached. Rotate the pan halfway through baking to ensure even baking.
