Tilapia filets and fresh asparagus are brushed with a super simple lemony garlic butter and cooks on a single sheet pan. The entire recipe takes under 30 minutes! This healthy and flavorful, protein packed dinner is perfect for busy evenings when you don’t feel like cooking – or doing a boatload of dishes.
Sometimes the simplest of ingredients can create such a delicious and satisfying meal. Let’s make it!
To Make This Easy Lemon Garlic Tilapia You Will Need:
- tilapia fillets – Fresh is best, however thawed from frozen will also work.
- asparagus – Thin stalks work best with the cooking time allotted.
- butter (melted ) – Use unsalted butter here.
- lemon juice – Adds bright citrus flavor.
- garlic – Adds distinct punchy flavor.
- fresh parsley – Lends a pop of color and herbaceous flavor.
- kosher salt – Enhances the flavors of the dish.
- ground black pepper – For distinct bite and flavor.
Preheat oven to 400°F (or 200°C).
Place a piece of parchment paper (or aluminum foil) onto a large rimmed baking sheet. Spray with avocado oil (or oil of your choice) and arrange the tilapia filets, pat them dry with paper towel. Next, arrange the asparagus on both sides of the tilapia.
Melt 4 tablespoons of unsalted butter in a small saucepan. Once melted, remove and add in 2 cloves minced fresh garlic, 2 tablespoons minced fresh parsley, juice of 1/2 a lemon, 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt and lots of freshly ground black pepper. Stir to combine.
Spoon the garlic lemon butter over top of the tilapia and asparagus.
Use a brush to spread the butter mixture to evenly cover the fish. I brush the asparagus as well.
Place in a preheated oven and bake for 10 minutes, rotating the pan half way through. After the 10 minutes, move to the highest position in your oven and turn on the broiler. Broil for 2 to 3 more minutes or until the fish is completely opaque and flakes. Watch carefully to avoid burning.
That’s it!
I like to serve this tilapia with wild rice and a wedge of lemon to squeeze over top of everything. I even spoon a little of the pan juices overtop too!
It’s so good that my family loves it and ask for seconds.

Can't go wrong with a simple and easy fish dinner. I love them. I prefer my fish simple and not 'over dressed'. Im sure I'd ask for seconds too!
This was delicious! The flavors were just right. Thank you for posting this recipe!
Have to say this was very, very good. Bonus: it was also fast and pretty easy! I added quite a bit of fresh ground black pepper, and sprinkled more on before broiling. I also greased the pan with a little coconut oil. We used some very cheap, frozen Tilapia fillets from a wholesale club, and I’ve rarely had a tastier fish. Bravo!

This was tasty! I didn’t have lemon pepper so I just subbed regular fresh-cracked black pepper and added a bit more lemon juice. I served this with some israeli couscous with grated pecorino-romano and some steamed broccoli. Super easy weeknight dish. Thanks!
